Comics from Once Upon a Trope

This weekly webcomic first appeared on the storytelling advice blog Mythcreants in September 2019 and ran until September 2023, regularly getting over 10K views per month. Each week’s script lampoons a different sci-fi or fantasy trope. After working with editor-in-chief Chris Winkle on the script, it was up to me to sketch, ink, and color the comic. While drawing, I kept an eye towards genre aesthetics, fun costumes, and diverse casting while maintaining a simple and cartoony style. (Star Trek should hire me based purely on the number of distinctive space uniforms I’ve had to design!) The comic is published under the pseudonym “Bunny.”

Once Upon a Trope has been praised by commenters for the expressiveness of its characters, creative backgrounds, and appealing use of color. Here are a few of my personal favorites.
